The Senior Special Assistant to the Edo State Governor on Digital Media, Kassy Chukwu, has announced that singer Davido has been “barred” from performing in Edo State following his recent online clash with Governor Monday Okpebholo.
The dispute began after Okpebholo, while campaigning for the APC in Osun State ahead of the governorship election, criticised incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, Davido’s uncle, describing him as “unserious” and accusing him of focusing mainly on dancing.
Davido responded on social media by mocking the Edo governor and sharing what he claimed was Okpebholo’s poor WAEC result. Davido later said he had no intention of apologising.
Reacting to the controversy, Chukwu criticised the singer for allegedly disrespecting his principal. In a video, he claimed Davido would not be allowed to perform in Edo State for the remaining “six years” of Okpebholo’s anticipated tenure.
Chukwu also alleged that the WAEC result shared by Davido was AI-generated, although that claim has not been independently established.
The statement appears to be a declaration by the governor’s aide rather than evidence of a formally issued state government ban.
