Publisher and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has described FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s recent comment about the Osun State governorship election as an “empty boast.”

Wike had said he could have gone to Osun to help the APC secure victory if President Bola Tinubu had wanted the party to win the election at all costs.

Responding during an interview on Channels Television, Momodu argued that Wike’s influence was not greater than that of the Senate President and several governors who had already campaigned for the APC in Osun but could not deliver the state.

Momodu said:

“When I listened to him, I had to respond instantly because I knew that was an empty boast. If he had been in Osun, he would not have achieved anything.”

He also described Wike’s statement as “unusual, uncommon and unfortunate” for a serving minister, warning Nigerians to pay attention to such rhetoric ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Momodu further referenced the former G-5 governors, arguing that their political influence did not guarantee electoral victories. He noted that three of the five—then governors from Abia, Enugu and Benue—had attempted to secure senatorial seats in their respective states but failed.

He concluded by saying:

“Wike would have to divide himself into 36 states plus Abuja for him to perform the kind of magic he thinks he can perform.”

Momodu’s comments come amid growing political manoeuvring and alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
