Former Vice-President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns over an unauthorised payment made into one of his private bank accounts.
Atiku, in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, said an unknown individual transferred money into the account with the description “Contribution Electioneering Campaign.”
According to him, neither he nor his campaign solicited, authorised or had any knowledge of the payment or the person behind it.
Atiku said the account is strictly private and its details are not publicly available, raising questions about how the information was obtained.
He said the incident could indicate a serious breach of financial privacy, warning that if the banking details of a former vice-president and presidential candidate could be accessed by unknown individuals, the financial information of ordinary Nigerians could also be vulnerable.
The former vice-president further expressed concern that the information could have been obtained through individuals with privileged access to banking data, potentially exposing account holders to criminals.
He described the incident as part of what he called a series of “suspicious activities” ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Despite the development, Atiku said he would remain focused on his political ambitions and would not be distracted by what he described as attempts at character assassination.
He urged Nigerians not to be distracted by such tactics, insisting that his focus remains on providing credible leadership and practical solutions to the country’s challenges.
