Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has rejected claims that banditry is rampant in Abuja, insisting that the city remains secure.

During an inspection of ongoing projects in the federal capital on Monday, Wike acknowledged that crimes occur but said reports of banditry are exaggerated. He praised security agencies for their dedication and urged the public to recognize their efforts.

“I don’t believe there is banditry in Abuja,” Wike said. “Yes, it is a city where people may attempt crimes like kidnapping, but security agencies are taking their work very seriously. Last time, some people were kidnapped in Bwari, but they were all rescued. What matters is the measures taken to prevent and tackle crime.”

He added, “We do not need to always advertise one crime when security agencies have stopped dozens more. We should commend their efforts so they can continue to improve.”
