Donald Trump has criticised The Wall Street Journal after the newspaper alleged he prematurely declared victory over Iran in recent remarks.
The report, published by the paper’s editorial board, argued that Iran remains a threat to maritime security, particularly in relation to the Strait of Hormuz, and warned that Tehran could still retain enriched uranium capabilities.
Responding on Truth Social, Trump dismissed the claim, calling the newspaper “inaccurate” and insisting that his position reflected a clear success. He maintained that Iran would “never have a nuclear weapon” and claimed that oil flows through global markets would soon stabilise.

Trump also accused the publication of persistent bias, saying it frequently criticises but rarely admits error. In a separate post, he warned against any attempt by Iran to impose charges or restrictions on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Wall Street Journal editorial board, however, argued that unrestricted maritime access remains a cornerstone of international trade and warned that any Iranian control over the strait could be interpreted as a geopolitical setback for the United States.
The editorial further claimed that Trump’s mixed messaging on Iran has created uncertainty and weakened diplomatic consensus. It also questioned whether the proposed ceasefire arrangement with Tehran, reportedly brokered with Pakistan’s involvement, would hold.
The developments come amid ongoing diplomatic activity involving U.S. officials, including planned discussions involving JD Vance and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, who are expected to meet counterparts in Islamabad as part of broader negotiations linked to Iran.
