Troops of the Nigerian Army, working alongside other security agencies, have arrested 46 suspected illegal immigrants during a security operation in Ogun State.
The suspects comprise 18 nationals of Burkina Faso, 23 citizens of Côte d’Ivoire, four Togolese nationals, and one Senegalese national. Security authorities said those arrested include 36 males and 10 females.
The Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, Major Idereghi Samuel Akari, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday.
According to Akari, the operation began on June 11, 2026, and led to the arrest of the suspects in Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese, and neighbouring communities during a targeted security exercise.
He explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the individuals had been residing in Ogun State for about six months without valid immigration documents.
“During interrogation, the suspects claimed to be merchants and workers affiliated with QNet, an online marketing platform involved in the sale of various commodities,” Akari stated.
He added that the suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ogun State Command, for further investigation and necessary administrative action in line with existing laws.
Reacting to the operation, the Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Friday Oguche Onu, commended the troops and other security agencies involved for their professionalism and vigilance.
The brigade commander also urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious movements, activities, or individuals to security agencies for prompt action.
The Army noted that the operation reflects ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat illegal migration, strengthen internal security, and protect national interests.
