The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has selected former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

Amaechi will run alongside the party’s presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as the ADC seeks to strengthen its position ahead of the next presidential election.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, announced the decision on June 15, stating that Amaechi’s emergence followed extensive consultations within the party.

According to Abdullahi, the former governor’s selection was influenced by his performance in the party’s presidential primary, where he emerged as runner-up, as well as his record of public service.

The ADC said Amaechi brings significant experience from both the legislative and executive arms of government, having served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State, and Minister of Transportation.

The party noted that his experience and political profile would complement Atiku’s leadership, broaden the party’s national appeal, and strengthen its campaign to present what it described as a credible and experienced alternative to Nigerians in 2027.

Atiku secured the ADC presidential ticket after emerging victorious in the party’s primary election held in May.

The announcement marks a significant step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general election as political parties continue to position themselves ahead of the contest.
