Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have arrested a serving soldier and four other suspected drug traffickers during a raid on a notorious drug hideout in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Intelligence sources told security analyst Zagazola Makama that the operation was carried out at about 5:00 p.m. on July 30, 2026, at the Congo-Russia area following credible intelligence on illicit drug activities in the location.
According to the sources, troops of Sector 1 OPEP stormed the hideout and arrested five suspects identified as Lance Corporal Luka Yakubu of the 82 Battalion, Abdulkarim Abubakar, Adam Musa, John Isah and Charles Ibrahim.
During the raid, the troops recovered quantities of substances suspected to be cannabis and other illicit drugs. The recovered exhibits have been taken into custody pending forensic examination.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the soldier had allegedly been absent without official leave (AWOL) and was reportedly involved in illicit drug trafficking.
The five suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation as security agencies work to establish possible links to wider criminal networks.
Security sources said the operation forms part of OPEP’s ongoing crackdown on criminal hideouts and illicit drug trafficking, which authorities believe contribute to violent crime and insecurity across Plateau State.
They added that intelligence-led operations targeting drug trafficking, illegal arms circulation and other criminal activities will continue across the Joint Operations Area as part of efforts to improve public safety.
