The Katsina State Hisbah Board has directed its personnel to obtain valid court orders or arrest warrants before entering hotels or private residences while carrying out official duties.
The directive was contained in an internal circular issued to all local government commanders and headquarters personnel.
According to the board, the decision followed a resolution reached during one of its regular meetings and takes immediate effect.
Under the new directive, officers are required to obtain a valid court order or arrest warrant before conducting searches or entering hotels and residential premises, except where the Commandant General authorises such action or where existing laws provide otherwise.
The board said the measure was introduced to ensure that its operations comply with existing laws governing law enforcement and the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.
It also warned commanders and other personnel against authorising or carrying out searches of hotels or private residences without the necessary legal approval, except in situations permitted by law.
The circular further instructed all local government commanders to communicate the directive to officers under their command and ensure strict compliance.
Emphasising the importance of due process, the board urged its personnel to respect the constitutional rights of citizens and carry out their responsibilities in accordance with the rule of law.
The Hisbah Board warned that any officer who violates the directive would face disciplinary action in addition to any legal consequences that may arise from such misconduct.
