A woman has been killed and another injured after suspected armed bandits attacked two women who had gone to fetch firewood in Aloghom Village, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 10:45 a.m. on August 3, 2026, according to intelligence sources cited by security analyst Zagazola Makama.
The sources said troops of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) responded swiftly to a distress call and rushed to the area, forcing the attackers to flee before causing further harm.
Following a search of the surrounding bush, soldiers found the two victims, identified as Mrs. Priscilia Friday and Anna Obed Joseph, both suffering from injuries sustained during the attack.
The victims were evacuated to Allah Nakowa Hospital for emergency medical treatment. However, Mrs. Priscilia Friday was later confirmed dead, while Anna Obed Joseph is currently receiving treatment.
Security sources said troops have intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, with patrols reinforced across the affected community to prevent further attacks.
The latest incident adds to growing security concerns in parts of Mangu Local Government Area, where communities have continued to face attacks amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to restore peace and protect residents.
