Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Oluremi Tinubu will depart Abuja on Tuesday, March 17, for a historic State Visit to the United Kingdom as guests of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
According to presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the Tinubus will be hosted at Windsor Castle from Wednesday, March 18, to Thursday, March 19. This marks the first visit by a Nigerian leader in 37 years and the first time a Nigerian president is received by the British monarch at Windsor Castle.
The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and explore collaboration on trade, investment, immigration, and cultural exchange. During their stay, the President and First Lady will view a special exhibition of Nigerian items from the Royal Collection, hold private discussions with King Charles, and meet organisations promoting interfaith dialogue. A State Banquet will also be hosted in their honour.
President Tinubu is scheduled to meet Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street for bilateral talks, culminating in the signing of Memoranda of Understanding on trade, investment, defence, and cultural cooperation. He will also witness the signing of a £746 million financing deal between the UK Export Finance, the Nigerian Ports Authority, and the Federal Ministry of Finance for the refurbishment of the Lagos Port Complex (Apapa Quays) and Tin Can Island Port Complex.
The President will attend the Nigerian Modernism exhibition, showcasing modern arts and culture, and participate in a reception with Nigerian and British business leaders and the diaspora.
Members of the presidential entourage include Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Attorney General and Minister of Justice Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN, Ministers Dele Alake, Idris Mohammed, Wale Edun, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Hannatu Musawa, Bosun Tijani, General Christopher Musa (rtd), National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu, and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
Onanuga stated that President Tinubu will return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the visit.
