Fresh concerns have emerged in Bauchi State following the discovery of another alleged employment scam targeting job seekers with fake government appointment letters.

The Nigeria Police Force said it has launched an investigation into the circulation of fraudulent employment letters in the state.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, a suspect identified as Saleem Alhassan from the Zango area of Bauchi Local Government Area was handed over for further investigation.

According to the statement, the suspect was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department on May 18, 2026, by the Area Commander of Bauchi Metropolis for further processing.

The police noted that the incident is coming barely two weeks after a similar case was reported in the state following a complaint from the Office of the Head of Service, which led to the arrest and prosecution of two suspects.

Authorities disclosed that five forged temporary appointment letters were recovered from Alhassan during preliminary investigations.

Investigators alleged that the suspect fabricated and printed the fake appointment letters to appear as though they were officially issued by a government office in 2025.

The police further alleged that he collected sums ranging between N500,000 and N750,000 from unsuspecting job seekers after promising to secure government employment for them.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, warned members of the public against dealing with individuals or groups demanding money in exchange for employment opportunities.

He urged residents to verify the authenticity of employment-related communications through official government channels before taking any action.
