Plateau State government on Thursday suspended its decision to
create grazing reserves. The decision followed intense pressure on the
government by the immediate past governor, Mr. Jonah Jang and youths of
the state.

The youths had on Monday besieged the government house, asking the
governor to reverse his decision to donate some parcels of land for the
proposed grazing reserves. This came after similar pressure from Jang
and the lawmaker representing Barakin Ladi/Riyom federal constituency,
Mr. Istifans Gyang.
However, rising from the State Executive Council meeting, the
governor said that he could no longer sustain the decision in view of
the opposition to it. He said the decision was suspended until
consultations with relevant stakeholders in the state were concluded.
He also said that the government was still consulting with stakeholders
on the establishment of ranches to address farmers/herders clashes.
Commissioner for Water Resources, Mr Jafaru Wuyep said this when he
briefed newsmen at the end of the meeting presided over by the Deputy
Governor, Prof. Sonni Tyoden.
