The leadership and stakeholders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Plateau State have reaffirmed their support for Alfred Dapal Damiyal as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The position was restated at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s state secretariat in Jos on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

At the meeting, party leaders and stakeholders maintained that the September 15, 2026 affirmation exercise, through which Damiyal emerged as the party’s governorship candidate, remains the basis of their position.
The stakeholders said the exercise was witnessed by party members and an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which they described as an important part of the process.
They also expressed their determination to protect the integrity of the party’s internal processes and ensure that decisions reached through recognised procedures are respected.
The stakeholders stressed the need for party members to remain united and disciplined, saying adherence to established procedures would strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 election.
They further alleged that opposition interests were attempting to create divisions within the NDC and urged members to remain vigilant against what they described as efforts to disrupt the party’s preparations.
The allegation was made by the NDC stakeholders and was not independently established in the statement.
The meeting also focused on strengthening the party’s structures, engaging voters and preparing for the 2027 governorship election in Plateau State.
The stakeholders called on members and supporters to remain committed to the party’s collective decisions while allowing relevant institutions to address any issues requiring formal clarification.
The meeting ended with a renewed expression of support for Damiyal and an appeal for unity among NDC leaders, stakeholders and members as the party continues preparations for the 2027 election.
