Reno Omokri Challenges Peter Okoye Over His Support For Peter Obi, Questions Obi’s Record As Anambra Governor

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has criticised singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P of the P-Square duo, following the resurfacing of a video in which the musician campaigned for former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of the 2023 general election.

In the throwback video, Peter Okoye urged Nigerians to move away from older politicians and support Obi, arguing that the country needed younger leadership.

Reacting to the video, Omokri faulted the singer’s argument, insisting that age alone was not a convincing reason to support a presidential candidate.

He compared the ages of Obi and his former running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, with those of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, arguing that the Tinubu-Shettima ticket had a slightly lower average age.

Omokri also questioned Okoye’s endorsement of Obi by comparing the former Anambra governor’s record in office with Tinubu’s tenure as governor of Lagos State.

He recalled that Peter and his twin brother, Paul Okoye, began their music careers in Jos and later moved to Lagos, where they achieved widespread success. He attributed their success, in part, to the development of Lagos under Tinubu’s administration.

The former presidential aide went on to list several secondary schools and independent power projects that he credited to Tinubu’s government in Lagos.

Omokri challenged Peter Okoye to name a school or power project that Obi initiated, completed and commissioned using government funds during his tenure as Anambra governor.

He further questioned why Obi and Okoye, alongside their families, live in Lagos rather than Anambra if the former governor’s record in office was as exceptional as his supporters claim.

Omokri also defended the Tinubu administration, citing the federal student loan scheme and developments in the university education sector as reasons young Nigerians should consider supporting the incumbent government.

The exchange has brought renewed attention to the debate over age, governance records and political leadership ahead of the 2027 general election.
