Sowore’s AAC Seeks Permission to Use Aso Rock for Campaign Council Inauguration

The African Action Congress (AAC), led by its presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has written to President Bola Tinubu seeking permission to use the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, for the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The request, contained in a letter dated October 21, 2026, and signed by the party’s National Secretary, Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminoghena, proposes November 11 for the ceremony.

Beyond requesting the use of the Presidential Villa, the party also asked the Presidency to provide food, drinks and other logistical support for 5,000 participants expected to attend the event from within and outside Nigeria. According to reports by TheCable and Vanguard, the party said the request was made in the spirit of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness and equal treatment of political parties.

The AAC cited arrangements reportedly extended to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for a similar political engagement, arguing that public institutions should serve Nigerians without discrimination based on political affiliation.

The party maintained that granting its request would demonstrate the Tinubu administration’s commitment to fairness and equal access. It also asked the Presidency to communicate the procedures and conditions required for approval.

The request follows the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja on October 14, 2026, as the ruling party intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections.

As of October 21, no official approval of the AAC’s request had been confirmed in the reports available.
