PETITION BY NAPSS NATIONAL BODY AND NAPSS NTA TELEVISION COLLEGE CHAPTER AGAINST THE POLITICALLY MOTIVATED TRANSFER OF FIVE TOP MANAGEMENT STAFF OF NTA TELEVISION COLLEGE JOS. 8th September, 2016

It is with greatest dismay that the National Association of Plateau State Students (NAPSS) NTA TVC Chapter & National Body, Plateau Youth council, parents and concerned students wishes to draw the attention of relevant authorities and the general public over the unfair treatment of some members of staff of NTA Television College Jos who are indigenous people of Plateau State.

NTA Television College is the only Television College in West Africa. It was established in 1980. It is an affiliate of the great Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, a degree awarding institution. The said institution has produced a number of Media professionals working both within and outside the country. This was because all previous Rectors and principals have upheld the philosophy of professionalism and merit.

Notwithstanding that the land where the institution is situated was donated without compensation, the Plateau State Government has never at any point influenced the appointment of any principal staff in the college and the reason is solely because they allowed the principle of merit to take its course.

From inception the college has had about ten (10) rectors with none a Plateau Indigene, but since merit was the watchword, the Plateau State Government never agitated for an imposition of any principal position in the college. Recent events may set an unhealthy precedence. The principle of Federal Character does not reflect the appointments in the College.

It is on this note that we intend to stage a peaceful demonstration on Wednesday, 14th September 2016 to press home our dismay to relevant authorities.

The significance of this protest is for you to be intimated on the following points:

1.Ms Halima Bewell who assumed the Rectorship of the college made her way through the backdoor as she does not have the requisite qualifications for this high profile position. Shedoes not hold a valid BachelorsDegree or Masters Degree as claimed. The person in question had at different times claimed to be an indigene of Plateau state with no specific identification but it was disclosed that she is of Senegalese Nationality.

Because of her tyrannical and authoritative style of leadership Plateau state indigenes in NTA College insisted she does the right thing like getting college equipments for students usage and put up befitting Studio for the students and along the line these people transferred got hold of her forgery of certificates.

These groups of persons realized their consciousness and agitated she should be removed. Because of her connection  with the executive director of training and Director-General  of Nigerian Television Authority, all the agitators who are of Plateau origin were transferred among whom was the only management Staff.

2.The Director-General has allowed her to have her ways, she has misappropriated college funds without development in the institution and had treated all subordinates and students with disdain and now she has been transferred to NTA Headquarters to Hold a high profile position.

3.An Institution seeking full accreditation has someone with doctorate and masters degrees but because they are of Plateau Origin and might eventually expose all her ordeal which may ignite her being investigated, she then influenced their posting with the aid of her cohort Mr Damisa.

4.Among the Present crop of management, an indigene of plateau who is married to a Taraba Man is the most qualified with a doctorate degree in Education and planning and has a number of academic publications recognized locally and internationally, but was denied and shamelessly transferred to a station.

OUR RESOLVE:

1.We have decided that we shall stage a peaceful demonstration/protest on Wednesday 14th September 2016

2. We demand the immediate reversal of all politically motivated transfers.

3. Merit and due process be followed to enable the most academically qualified person assume the position of Rector of NTA Television College Jos.

4. That we strongly reject the appointment of Dr.Taiwo Oladokun as the Rector for the following reasons;

(i)He resigned from NTA about Eight years ago

(ii)He does not have properly documented academic publications and contributions to the body of Knowledge as this is a benchmark for NUC requirements.

(iii) He is not experienced regarding the operations of the college.

5. That Ms Halima Bewell be investigated to ascertain the validity of her claims and qualifications.

6. That the Director General of NTA should as a matter of urgency investigate the warranted and politically motivated transfers taking place within the college.

7. We reject in totality the politically motivated transfer of the following;

1. Dr. Mrs. Phoebe Rhisante (PhD)

2. Mr. Justin Davweb (Bsc, MSc)

3. Mr. Dimka Mufukdang

4. Mr Zakari Yakubu (Bsc,Msc Economics)

5. Mr Yohanna kyawu

We call on relevant authorities including anti-graft agencies concerned to as a matter of urgency initiate investigation into the issues raised and for peace to reign reverse the decision of the  transfer of relevant staff out of the college and also the principle of merit should be upheld.

Lastly, we wish to draw the attention of the public to the fact that NTA Television College has not been giving full accreditation by NUC and one of  the reasons is attributed to lack of Doctors (PhD holders) and Professors; Why then should the Authorities of NTA transfer a PhD holder to a station?

For professionalism to be enhanced we suggest a deviation from religious and ethnic dichotomy.

Yours in Struggle for Humanity,

Comrade Makut Alfred MashatComrade Vilret Enoch John
