The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged the Federal Government to broaden its counterterrorism strategy, emphasizing the need to identify and dismantle the networks financing insurgents.
Speaking during the November Holy Ghost Service at the Redemption City Campground, Adeboye stressed that Nigeria’s fight against terrorism would only succeed if those funding the violence are brought to justice, regardless of their influence or political stature.
“When giving directives to the service chiefs, the President should ensure they are tasked not only with neutralizing terrorists but also targeting their sponsors, no matter how powerful they may be,” he said.
Adeboye advised President Bola Tinubu to act decisively while employing diplomatic measures to end the wave of killings across the country. He warned that Nigeria cannot depend solely on foreign intervention in the event of a major security crisis, stressing the need for homegrown solutions.
The cleric also questioned claims by the President that the country’s security situation has improved, describing such reports as disconnected from the reality Nigerians face.
“I almost spoke last month when I heard the section of the President’s speech that claimed all is well. Whoever wrote that part of the speech does not have his interest at heart. People are still being killed and displaced,” Adeboye said.
He urged the government to prioritize tangible results over rhetoric, noting that while security challenges predate the current administration, decisive action is now imperative.
Adeboye further called for unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, recalling a period when Christians and Muslims lived harmoniously before politics deepened societal divisions.
He concluded on an optimistic note, encouraging Nigerians to remain steadfast and prayerful, confident that peace would ultimately return to the nation.
