Nigeria’s FX Market Records $2.63bn Turnover in One Week

Nigeria’s foreign exchange market recorded a significant increase in trading activity in the week ended September 25, 2026, with total turnover rising to $2.63 billion.

According to data from FMDQ Group, the figure represents an 11.02 per cent increase from the $2.37 billion recorded in the previous week ended September 18.

The increase was largely driven by stronger activity in the FX Spot market, which rose by 10.62 per cent to $2.59 billion, from $2.34 billion in the preceding week.

FX Spot transactions accounted for 98.51 per cent of the total foreign exchange market turnover during the review period, highlighting its continued dominance in Nigeria’s official FX market.

Meanwhile, turnover in the FX Derivatives market, comprising mainly FX Forward transactions, increased by 46.42 per cent to $39.21 million, compared with $26.78 million in the previous week.

The combined increase in spot and derivatives trading pushed average daily FX market turnover to $525.43 million, up from $473.26 million in the previous week.

The latest figures represent a rebound in Nigeria’s FX market following a 30.23 per cent decline in turnover recorded in the previous week.

The rise in trading activity comes amid ongoing efforts to improve liquidity, strengthen price discovery and deepen activity in Nigeria’s foreign exchange market.
