Billionaire businessman and President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has revealed that his first grandson is currently not interested in joining the family business.
Dangote made the disclosure on Tuesday, September 29, during an investor engagement in Nairobi, Kenya, organised around the planned initial public offering of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
According to the industrialist, his grandson, who is an electrical engineer, wants to gain professional experience outside the family business before eventually joining the conglomerate.
“He wants to go and get experience with KPMG or PWC. Then after he’ll come and join us. He’s an electrical engineer, but he wants to go and learn about money first,” Dangote said.
Dangote also spoke about the involvement of his family in the business, noting that his three daughters — Mariya, Halima and Fatima — already have responsibilities within the conglomerate.
The businessman said the Dangote Group focuses on five-year plans rather than 10-year targets, arguing that very distant goals could encourage complacency.
