Prominent Nigerian Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi has reacted to reports of the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, describing him as “a lucky soul” who died in what he termed jihad.
In a message posted on his Facebook page on Sunday, Gumi said Khamenei died “in jihad against killers of innocent children and women in Gaza and elsewhere,” adding that the late leader’s death could inspire change within the global Muslim community.
He further stated that Khamenei’s blood “will fuel the change in the ummah,” noting that the Iranian leader, in his view, stood firmly for justice and did not seek refuge in bunkers.
“Ayatollah Ali Khamenei: A lucky soul, he died in jihad against killers of innocent children and women in Gaza and elsewhere. His blood will fuel the change in the ummah. He stood firmly for justice and didn’t hide in bunkers,” Gumi wrote, adding that those responsible for his killing would face consequences in time.
Khamenei, who served as Iran’s Supreme Leader for decades, remained a central figure in the country’s political and religious leadership until his reported death following an Israeli strike in Tehran on Saturday. Israel has not issued a detailed public statement on the claim.
