Former Senator representing Plateau North Senatorial District, Senator Istifanus Dung Gyang, has expressed appreciation to members of his “Believe Campaign Team” for their commitment and sacrifices during the recently inconclusive All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election in Plateau North.

Speaking during a thanksgiving gathering with members of the campaign team at his residence in Jos, Gyang commended supporters for their dedication throughout his bid to secure the APC ticket for the 2027 Senate election.

The former lawmaker described the team as a formidable political force that remained steadfast in advancing his vision for quality representation and good governance.

“Today is a day of gratitude and thanksgiving. Gratitude to God for His goodness and for connecting me with every one of you individually and all of you collectively,” Gyang said.

He praised campaign members for their contributions, ranging from strategic planning to grassroots mobilisation across communities in the senatorial district.

“I want to express my deepest appreciation to each of you for the work, sacrifice and belief you poured into our campaign. You knocked on doors, made calls, defended our message and stood firm when it would have been easier to walk away. That kind of loyalty and commitment cannot be manufactured, and I do not take it for granted,” he added.

Gyang, however, raised concerns over the conduct of the APC senatorial primary election in Plateau North, alleging that the process was disrupted before voting could take place despite the turnout of party members across the district.

According to him, party supporters and delegates gathered across the 73 electoral wards in anticipation of the exercise, but the primary was stalled before votes were cast.

He further alleged that a result was later announced despite what he described as the absence of a properly conducted election, a development he said had generated concerns among party members and supporters.

The former senator disclosed that his campaign had formally submitted a petition to the National Assembly Primary Election Appeal Committee in accordance with the provisions of the APC Constitution and the party’s guidelines governing primary elections.

“We have taken the appropriate steps provided by the party by submitting our complaints to the National Assembly Primary Election Appeal Committee. As we await justice from the National Working Committee of the APC, we are hopeful that they will not allow this apparent travesty and trampling of democratic principles to stand,” he said.

Despite the controversy, Gyang urged his supporters to remain hopeful and committed, stressing that the campaign represented more than a quest for political office.

“The contest was never just about a seat. It was about proving that our people deserve a politics driven by competence, fairness and service. You proved that it is possible, and you have laid the groundwork for our journey of destiny,” he stated.

Reiterating his gratitude, Gyang described the Believe Campaign Team as one of the most vibrant political movements in Plateau North and expressed confidence that their collective aspiration would ultimately be achieved.

“Thank you for standing with me, for believing in the cause, and for representing our team with honour. By the grace of God, our quest to serve the good people of Plateau North will be fulfilled,” he said.

The APC senatorial primary in Plateau North has continued to attract attention following disputes over its conduct, with party stakeholders awaiting the outcome of the appeals process.
