Plateau Police Arrest 25 Suspects, Recover Cannabis and Controlled Drugs in Jos Raid

 The Plateau State Police Command has arrested 25 suspected drug dealers and recovered cannabis, controlled drugs, and other illicit substances during a coordinated operation targeting drug hotspots in Jos.

The raid, carried out on Friday evening, was conducted by a joint security team comprising officers from the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Anglo-Jos Division, Anti-Cybercrime and Narcotic Unit, Monitoring Unit, and the Eagle Eye Patrol Team.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the operation commenced at about 7:55 p.m. on June 20, 2026, and focused on identified criminal hideouts at Old Airport Junction and Fwavei Junction in Jos.

The police said the locations had been identified as notorious centres for the sale and distribution of cannabis, controlled drugs, and other prohibited substances.

During the operation, 25 suspects were apprehended, while various exhibits, including cannabis and other illicit substances, were recovered and taken into police custody.

The command disclosed that investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the suspects’ involvement in drug-related activities and other criminal offences.

Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating drug-related crimes and dismantling criminal networks operating across the state.

He commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism, bravery, and coordinated efforts, noting that the success of the raid reflects the command’s determination to rid Plateau State of criminal elements.

The police commissioner also assured residents that intelligence-driven operations and aggressive patrols would continue across the state to enhance public safety and security.

He urged members of the public to support law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist in the fight against crime.

CP Ewah warned that individuals involved in the trafficking, sale, or distribution of illicit drugs, as well as those aiding criminal activities, would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Plateau State Police Command reiterated its resolve to safeguard lives and property and expressed appreciation to law-abiding citizens for their continued cooperation in efforts to build a safer and drug-free society.

The command encouraged residents to make use of its emergency and complaint channels to report crimes and instances of police misconduct.
