Reality TV star Vee Iye has opened up about the painful experiences she faced growing up as a left-handed child.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the former BBNaija housemate revealed that her parents once went as far as cutting her with a razor in an attempt to make her switch hands.
She wrote:
“Growing up left handed got me into a lot of unnecessary arguments. Glad that nonsense is dying out.”
Her post quickly went viral, sparking widespread conversation as many Nigerians shared similar childhood experiences of being punished or mocked for using their left hand.
One user commented:
“I was beaten, had my palms cut by razor blade… they only had right-handed people in mind when building those classroom tables.”
Another recalled:
“My hands got beaten every day in school until I switched to my right hand. I even got into arguments at home for being left-handed.”
Many others joined in, expressing relief that societal attitudes toward left-handedness are gradually changing, with one user describing it as “a generational trauma that needs to end.”
