Nigerian music star Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, and entertainment executive and philanthropist Soso Soberekon have attracted attention for their reported contributions to education, youth empowerment and community development in the Niger Delta.
One of the notable initiatives associated with the duo is a scholarship programme announced in January 2026, aimed at supporting 500 students from the Niger Delta who are facing financial difficulties in pursuing their tertiary education.
The programme, tagged “From Carnival to Classroom,” followed the Benikrukru Christmas Carnival held in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State, which featured a performance by Burna Boy.
The scholarship initiative was facilitated by Soso Soberekon in collaboration with Dr. (Mrs.) Esther Mathew Tonlagha, founder of the EMT Foundation. It was designed to transform the success of the carnival into meaningful educational opportunities for young people across the region.

Organisers explained that the intervention would help ease the financial burden of tuition fees on indigent students and prevent financial difficulties from disrupting their academic pursuits.
Burna Boy’s involvement in the carnival also brought attention to the influence of successful entertainers in inspiring young people, particularly those from the Niger Delta.
Meanwhile, Soberekon’s involvement in philanthropic activities, including scholarships, talent development and community support, has further highlighted the importance of investing in the next generation.
The initiative comes amid growing concerns over the rising cost of education and the financial challenges confronting many Nigerian students.
By supporting access to education and creating opportunities for young people, the programme underscores the role of philanthropy and community partnerships in promoting sustainable development across the Niger Delta.
