Facts- Is the Olympic Gold Medal really Gold?

According to ABC News, the Olympic Gold medal contains only 1.34 percent
gold. The rest is sterling silver. The Olympic gold medal has not been
made of solid gold since 1912 due to shortage of the metal caused by
World War II.

812 gold medals will be awarded at the 2016 Rio
Olympics. According to Forbes Magazine Contributor Anthony Demarco, the
gold medal is worth $564 at the current market price.(ABC news)

US athletes are paid $25,000 dollars for each gold medal won, $15,000 for Silver medal and $10,000 for bronze.
