The Senator representing Plateau Central, Diket Plang, has formally declared his intention to seek re-election under the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling on constituents, traditional leaders, and party stakeholders to support his bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The senator made this known on Monday, May 4, during a series of visits to Pankshin Local Government Area, where he met with the Ngolong Ngas, local government officials, and party executives to present his nomination and expression of interest forms.

Speaking during a visit to the Ngolong Ngas, Nde Golit Ngolong Ngas, Plang said his decision to return to the people before proceeding with his campaign was borne out of respect and the need for their prayers and guidance.

“My visit is to first of all, in humility, inform my constituents, my traditional ruler, and party leaders that I have obtained the nomination and expression of interest forms for re-election come 2027. I need their prayers and support,” he said.

He emphasized that his return to the Senate would significantly benefit the constituency, noting that legislative experience and continuity are critical to achieving meaningful development.

“Four years in the Senate is often like a learning phase. It takes time to build relationships, understand the system, and position yourself effectively. A second term gives the opportunity to maximize productivity and deliver more for the people,” he added.

Plang noted that two of his bills have already scaled third reading and are awaiting presidential assent.

“I need to return to the Senate to ensure these bills are completed. If I go back, I will be more experienced, better positioned, and more effective in attracting development to my constituency,” he stated.

He also referenced motions he sponsored, including one that led to the inclusion of the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe Road in the Federal Government’s legacy projects.

Traditional Ruler, LG Chairman Back Senator

In his response, the Ngolong Ngas, Nde Golit Ngolong Ngas, offered prayers and support for the senator’s ambition, while urging peaceful political engagement.

“Just as you have been able to obtain this form, you will also succeed and continue the good work you have been doing. Politics should be done with patience and peace, not with insults or conflict,” the monarch said.

He further advised political actors to embrace unity and continuity for the sake of development.

Similarly, the Chairman of Pankshin Local Government Area, Hon. Felix Amos Gonung, commended the senator’s humility and respect for grassroots leadership.

“For a serving senator to come down and personally engage with local leadership shows character and understanding of politics. This is a virtue many should emulate,” he said.

Gonung assured the senator of the support of the local government leadership, describing his political journey from councillorship to the Senate as evidence of experience and resilience.

“We will support you in prayers and in action to ensure this ambition comes to fruition,” he added.
