Afrobeats star Davido (David Adeleke) has announced his withdrawal from the ongoing custody dispute over his daughter, stating that he never sought sole custody and expressing displeasure over how the court proceedings unfolded.
In a post shared on X late Friday, the singer clarified that his legal request was strictly for joint custody, contrary to public speculation that he was pursuing full parental control.
“I never asked for full custody … I asked for joint custody. Nobody won, nobody lost but my daughter … so I don’t know why some people are celebrating. There’s nothing to celebrate,” he wrote.
Davido explained that he decided to discontinue the case following what he described as an unacceptable development during courtroom exchanges, alleging that references were made to his late son — a move he said caused him deep distress.
“I’ve decided to drop the case because … until she brought out her last card! My deceased son! That’s a no no! Lowest blow!” he stated.
The singer maintained that his actions were motivated by love and responsibility, expressing confidence that his daughter would one day understand his efforts.
“My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her … let’s move on. One love!” he added.
He also criticised the opposing legal team on his Instagram story, accusing them of unprofessional conduct during proceedings and reiterating the emotional toll of the case.
The developments followed earlier social media posts by Lagos-based lawyer Maruf Muhammed, who drew attention to tense moments during a hearing at the Lagos State High Court.
“Davido in High Court, Yaba now! Come and see drama in court. The lawyer made 001 lose his patience during cross-examination o! Be you never so high, the law is above you,” Muhammed wrote.
Observers note that despite the legal tensions, both parents have continued to show commitment to their daughter’s well-being, with fans and supporters urging a peaceful co-parenting arrangement moving forward.
