Celebrity entrepreneur, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has declared his intention to contest for the Orlu/Orsu/Oru East Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The 45-year-old indigene of Orsu, Imo State, made the announcement ahead of the 2027 general elections, pledging to bring his personal wealth to bear on constituency development. He assured constituents that he would not rely on public funds for personal gain.
Okechukwu, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s nightlife industry and associated with the Cubana Group, said his ambition is driven by a desire to give back to his community and contribute to grassroots development.
His declaration has, however, generated mixed reactions online. While some supporters view his entry into politics as a welcome move by a successful businessman returning to serve his people, others questioned whether his background in the entertainment and hospitality sector adequately prepares him for legislative responsibilities.
Some commentators also drew comparisons with established business figures, debating whether celebrity status should translate into political leadership.
The seat is currently held by Canice Moore Chukwugozie Nwachukwu of the APC, in what is considered a political stronghold of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
Political observers say the development signals increasing interest from non-traditional actors as preparations gradually build toward the 2027 elections.
