The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to pressure the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Mr. Nafiu Bala Gombe as the party’s National Chairman.
According to the ADC, Nafiu—described as an ally of Bola Ahmed Tinubu—is an expelled member of the party and therefore cannot lay claim to its leadership.
In a statement issued in Abuja and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC described the alleged move as a calculated attempt by elements within the ruling party to create confusion within its ranks.
Abdullahi accused the administration of President Tinubu of plotting to weaken what he described as “the only viable opposition platform left in the country.”
The statement further alleged that the development forms part of “an elaborate plot by the ruling party to ensure that Tinubu emerges unopposed as the only serious contender on the ballot in 2027.”
The party maintained that there is no legal basis for any leadership dispute, insisting that the ADC leadership remains firmly under David Mark following a combined meeting of the party’s National Working Committee and National Executive Committee in July 2025, which was witnessed by officials of INEC.
The ADC also vowed to employ every legitimate means to resist what it described as attempts by anti-democratic forces within the ruling party to undermine competitive democracy in Nigeria.
