The Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP) has responded to recent comments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, declaring that he no longer holds a rightful place within the party.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its chairman, Obinna Nwachukeu, the group asserted that Wike—former governor of Rivers State—has forfeited his PDP membership by openly aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu.
The response follows remarks made by Wike during his monthly media chat on Monday, where he appeared to lay conditions and assert influence over the internal affairs of the PDP.
“We will not descend to trade words with Mr. Wike, an appointee and apologist of the failed Tinubu administration,” the group said. “He must be put in his place. The PDP has gone beyond being influenced or bullied by such political diatribes.”
CP-PDP urged Nigerians and party loyalists to ignore Wike’s “usual outbursts,” stating that he no longer speaks for the opposition party.
The group further clarified that the South-South and South-East leadership structures of the PDP have long been settled and are functioning effectively.
“Wike’s reference to court orders concerning the party’s leadership in these zones is irrelevant and should be disregarded,” the statement added.
The internal rift deepens tensions within the PDP, especially as political alignments and defections continue to shape the landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
