UNILAG Bans Skitmakers, Filmmakers from Using Campus for Video Shoots

The University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has prohibited the unauthorized use of its premises—including hostels and other facilities—for video production by skitmakers, filmmakers, and content creators.

In a statement signed by the institution’s Head of Communication, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, the university expressed concern over the increasing trend of individuals filming movies, skits, and other content on campus without approval.

The management said the decision aims to protect the school’s academic environment and prevent misrepresentation of its image in unregulated productions.

“The attention of the University of Lagos Management has been drawn to the increasing use of the University premises, including hostels and other facilities, for shooting of films/videos (skits, vox pop, etc.) and cinematographic activities without appropriate authorisation,” the statement read.

UNILAG noted that procedures are in place for anyone—students, staff, or external collaborators—seeking to produce content on campus and directed that all requests must go through the Communication Unit.

While encouraging creativity and responsible expression, the university stressed that all activities must follow its guidelines for order, safety, and decorum.

The directive comes amid a rise in content creation on campuses across Nigeria. Notably, UNILAG has produced some of the country’s most popular skitmakers, including Muhammed Gilmore and Chukwuebuka Emmanuel Amuzie, popularly known as Brain Jotter.
