Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, a senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and enforcer of the country’s strict hijab laws, has come under fire after a video of his daughter’s wedding surfaced online.
The viral footage shows Shamkhani’s daughter, Fatemeh Setayesh, wearing a strapless gown with a plunging neckline and her hair uncovered during a lavish ceremony at Tehran’s luxury Espinas Palace Hotel.
The event, reportedly held last year, also showed other women, including Shamkhani’s wife, dressed in backless and lace gowns—without hijabs.
Iranians have reacted angrily, accusing the official and his family of hypocrisy for enforcing hijab restrictions on ordinary women while openly disregarding them in private.
Critics say the video underscores the deep double standards among Iran’s political elite, who demand public conformity to moral laws they often ignore themselves.
