The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has congratulated Plateau State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Comrade Prince Miaphen, describing his appointment as a significant achievement for the Nigerian student movement and youth leadership.
NANS made the commendation during a solidarity and courtesy visit to Miaphen’s office in Jos on Friday, August 28, 2026.
The delegation, led by NANS National Vice President Comrade Nanchang Peter Timloh and National Vice President for External Affairs, Sadiq SK Zango, delivered a congratulatory message signed by the National President, Dist. Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, GCNS.
In the message, NANS described Miaphen as a distinguished former student leader whose journey through the Nigerian student movement demonstrates how youth leadership can translate into impactful public service.
The association said Miaphen is fondly known within the Aluta community as the “CUBANA of NANS”, citing the relationships, energy and influence he built during his years in the student movement.
NANS noted that his appointment was not only a personal achievement but also a victory for the student movement and youth leadership.
It expressed confidence that Miaphen’s experience and understanding of the challenges and aspirations of Nigerian youths would contribute to meaningful development in youth empowerment, education, sports, innovation and employment in Plateau State.
The association also pledged its readiness to maintain a constructive relationship with the commissioner and support initiatives aimed at creating greater opportunities for young people.
NANS Zonal Coordinators Also Commend Miaphen
Also visiting the commissioner was the NANS Forum of Zonal Coordinators, led by the Coordinator of NANS Zone C (North Central) and Chairman of the Coordinators Forum, Husseini Jamilu Ebbo.
Ebbo described Miaphen as an accomplished youth leader whose leadership style combines professionalism, discipline, integrity and practical ideas.
He commended the commissioner’s record in student and youth leadership, saying his appointment had further demonstrated his capacity to translate experience into public service.
According to Ebbo, Miaphen’s humility, competence, patriotism and commitment to high standards have earned him respect among his peers and younger generations of leaders.
Miaphen Pledges Continued Support for NANS
Responding, Commissioner Miaphen expressed appreciation to the NANS delegations for travelling to Plateau State to celebrate his appointment.
He described NANS as his “immediate constituency” and credited the student movement with playing a major role in shaping his leadership journey and eventual transition into mainstream politics.
“Any day, anytime, NANS is the umbrella body that groomed me to the secular politics that I am today,” Miaphen said.
He pledged continued engagement and support for student organisations across the country, assuring NANS that the ministry under his leadership would remain accessible to the student movement.
Miaphen also linked his appointment to the commitment of Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang to youth inclusion, particularly the recognition of young people with backgrounds in the student movement.
He assured the NANS leadership that student activities on the Plateau would receive greater attention and support, while urging the association to communicate its programmes and invitations early to enable the government to provide the necessary assistance.
The commissioner welcomed the delegations to Plateau State, describing it as “the home of peace and tourism.” and assured them of future engagement.
