President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared his intention to seek a second term in 2027, stating that rising insecurity in parts of the country will not force him out of office.
The President made the remarks in the presence of Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and other stakeholders, where he addressed concerns over the nation’s security situation.
Tinubu warned that attempts to use insecurity as a political tool against his administration play into the hands of hostile actors and political opponents.
“You are playing to the hand of agents, including my own enemies, who want to use insecurity to get rid of me,” the President said.
Reaffirming his stance, he described himself as resolute despite mounting criticism. “As a politician, I am incredibly obstinate. I simply won’t go. And I’ll run for a second term,” he added.
His comments come amid growing concerns over persistent attacks by armed groups, kidnappings, and killings in several parts of the country. Opposition figures and civil society organisations have continued to call on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to address the situation.
The President, however, has consistently defended his administration’s response, noting that security agencies are being supported to tackle threats and restore stability nationwide.
Tinubu, who assumed office in May 2023, is expected to complete his first term ahead of the next presidential election in 2027.
