Bola Tinubu has approved Nigeria’s bid to host the 48th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football as well as the 2026 CAF Awards ceremony.
The approval was reportedly given on the sidelines of the Africa Forward Summit taking place in Nairobi, Kenya, following a meeting between President Tinubu and CAF President Patrice Motsepe.
The high-level engagement also included Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, CAF President’s Special Adviser and former NFF boss Amaju Pinnick, and CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu.
The CAF General Assembly, scheduled for October, is one of the continent’s most important football gatherings, bringing together the presidents of all 54 CAF member associations, representatives from the six regional football bodies, and other senior administrators to deliberate on key issues shaping African football.
The CAF Awards, also set to be hosted by Nigeria, is regarded as the continent’s premier annual football ceremony, recognising outstanding players, coaches, teams, and other contributors who have excelled in African football.
