President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle within the Federal Executive Council, directing two ministers to step aside pending the appointment of their replacements.
According to a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, have been asked to hand over their responsibilities.
Edun is to transfer duties to Taiwo Oyedele, who will assume the role of Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State.
In the housing sector, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as minister-designate, while Dangiwa has been directed to hand over to the Minister of State pending confirmation.
The memo stated that all handover processes must be concluded on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Akume explained that the changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion in governance and improving the delivery of economic policies under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in approving the reshuffle.
The statement also conveyed the President’s appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them success in their future endeavours, while assuring that further efforts to reposition the cabinet would continue.
