A philanthropist and businessman, Timdi Nkat, has declared his intention to contest for the Mikang State Constituency seat in the Plateau State House of Assembly, pledging to promote unity, fairness, and people-focused leadership.

Nkat made the declaration while addressing supporters, where he emphasized the need to preserve the unity of Mikang communities, describing it as a core value that must not be compromised. He warned that increasing divisions and self-interest among leaders are threatening the cohesion that has long defined the constituency.

He said his decision to join the race was driven by a desire to “reinforce the cord” binding communities such as Tehl, Garkawa, Piapung, and Koenoem, and to restore a sense of collective identity.

The aspirant expressed concern over what he described as a growing disconnect between leadership and the people, noting that the current system has limited opportunities for citizens with innovative ideas to contribute meaningfully to governance.

Highlighting economic challenges faced by residents, Nkat stressed the need for leadership that prioritizes the welfare of the people over personal interests. He promised to ensure that resources are effectively utilized to improve the living conditions of constituents.

On youth development, he called for increased investment in skills acquisition, opportunities, and support systems, noting that the future of Mikang depends largely on empowering its young population.

Nkat also pointed to his track record in philanthropy, particularly in youth empowerment, stating that he has consistently used his personal resources to support community development initiatives.

Drawing from his experience as a businessman and teacher, he said he is well-prepared to deliver effective representation and responsive leadership if elected.

He urged residents of Mikang to support his vision, describing his ambition as a collective movement for progress. “This is not my ambition’s song; this is our chorus,” he said.

With his declaration, Nkat is set to challenge the incumbent Speaker of the Assembly, Naanlong Daniel, who is seeking another term in office.
