These Are Not Communal Clashes — They’re Targeted Killings,” Says Jang as Plateau Death Toll Passes 100 in One Week

Former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Jonah David Jang, has raised alarm over the recent wave of deadly attacks in the state, declaring that the violence is not communal but deliberate and orchestrated.

In a strongly worded press statement issued on April 15, 2025, the elder statesman condemned the spate of killings that have left over one hundred people dead within a week, describing the attacks as senseless and inhumane.

“I offer my deepest condolences to the government and people of Plateau State,” Jang said, adding that the scale of the carnage demands urgent and sincere action. “These senseless killings have caused pain and suffering for our great state and its people.”

While commending Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his unwavering efforts to restore peace, and acknowledging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s expressed commitment to tackling the crisis, Jang pointedly called out what he termed a dangerous mischaracterization of the problem.

“The President’s directive to the governor to resolve what was termed a ‘communal issue’ is based on flawed intelligence,” he said. “These are not communal clashes — they are targeted killings by a known group with a clear agenda.”

The former governor urged President Tinubu to seek deeper insight into the root of the conflict by convening a broad-based meeting with community leaders and stakeholders across the affected areas. “Such dialogue will help the President better understand the true nature of the attacks and chart a more effective path to peace,” he stated.

Calling on the people of Plateau to stay strong, united, and vigilant, Jang said the time had come to defend their communities and demand justice. “We are peace-loving people, but we’ve endured enough. Let’s call a spade a spade.”

He concluded with a message of solidarity and sympathy to the families of the victims, reaffirming his commitment to standing with the people of Plateau State during what he described as a dark and trying time.
