The Super Falcons of Nigeria have lost their chance to secure an automatic qualification ticket for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Myriam Maéva Nyadjou Wamen scored the decisive goal in the 19th minute at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca to send the Indomitable Lionesses into the semi-finals.
Nigeria dominated large portions of the encounter, particularly in the latter stages, but the Super Falcons were unable to find the equaliser as Cameroon held on for a narrow victory.
The defeat ended Nigeria’s defence of the WAFCON title and denied the reigning African champions an automatic ticket to next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The Super Falcons had entered the quarter-final as defending champions and were targeting a record-extending 10th appearance at the Women’s World Cup.
Cameroon will now face hosts Morocco in the WAFCON semi-finals after Morocco defeated South Africa 2-1 in their quarter-final clash.
