Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after a week-long trip where he represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York and later attended high-level meetings in Germany.

His aircraft touched down at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in the early hours of Thursday, where he was received by senior government officials.

At the UNGA, Shettima delivered President Tinubu’s national statement, calling for comprehensive reforms of the global body. He also emphasized Africa’s sovereignty over its estimated $700 billion in mineral resources and strengthened Nigeria’s partnerships with the United Kingdom, the Gates Foundation, and other international stakeholders.

In New York, the vice president met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who expressed support for Nigeria’s bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.

Shettima also showcased Nigeria’s $200 billion energy transition opportunities to global investors and reassured Nigerians in the diaspora of their continued inclusion in Tinubu’s policies and programmes.

Following the UN engagements, he proceeded to Germany for further strategic meetings before returning home.
