Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, has broken down in tears after allegedly being prevented from traveling abroad.
The lawmaker revealed during a live Facebook broadcast on Tuesday morning that her international passport had been withheld, preventing her from leaving the country.
According to her, this is not the first time such an incident has occurred.
“Having completed the celebration of my second year, I decided to take a week off, and my passport is being withheld again. The same thing happened before,” she lamented.
Senator Akpoti insisted that she had committed no offense and that there was no court order authorizing the seizure of her passport.
“I have committed no offense and there is no order from the court to seize my passport or deny me from traveling,” she said.
She further alleged that during a previous incident, an officer had informed her that the order to withhold her passport came from Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
“The last time it happened, the officer in charge told us that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, instructed them to withhold my passport and prevent me from traveling,” she alleged.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Senate President nor his office has responded to the allegations.
