Senator Diket Satso Plang, representing Plateau Central Senatorial District, has called for renewed faith in God and collective responsibility in addressing the rising wave of insecurity in Plateau State.
Speaking during a media chat with journalists at his Rayfield residence in Jos, the lawmaker expressed deep concern over recent killings across the state, urging citizens to remain steadfast in faith despite the challenges.
Plang linked the ongoing Easter season with messages of sacrifice, hope, and spiritual renewal, noting that the coincidence of Ramadan and Easter fasting this year signifies a period of intense prayers. He encouraged Nigerians to draw closer to God during these difficult times.
“Our faith in God should increase at challenging periods,” he said, offering prayers for forgiveness, grace, and a more hopeful future for Plateau State and Nigeria.
The senator described the recent loss of both military personnel and civilians, including a young army captain in Kanam, as “pathetic and painful,” while commending the armed forces for their continued sacrifices in safeguarding the nation.
He also condemned the recent attack in Angwan Rukuba, describing it as “strange, unfortunate, and deeply troubling,” particularly as it occurred at a social gathering venue.
Plang warned that the growing insecurity, especially in rural communities, has heightened fear among residents and disrupted livelihoods and economic activities. He stressed that fear prevents citizens from engaging in farming and other productive ventures, calling for swift justice to deter further criminal acts.
The lawmaker, however, praised Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visit to Plateau State in response to the crisis, describing the gesture as unprecedented and empathetic. He also commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his prompt response, noting that such leadership provides comfort to affected families.
Senator Plang further disclosed plans to enhance security through the installation of surveillance cameras and solar-powered streetlights in vulnerable communities, expressing optimism that these measures would help curb crime and restore public confidence.
On the broader causes of the violence, he noted that the crisis may extend beyond partisan politics to include communal, cultural, and religious dimensions, calling for a more holistic approach to addressing the situation.
Reaffirming his commitment to his constituents, the senator pledged sustained representation and development efforts, highlighting proposed projects in the 2026 budget aimed at boosting the local economy through empowerment initiatives.
He concluded by urging unity, love, and shared responsibility among citizens and government in tackling insecurity, while offering prayers for lasting peace, protection, and progress across Plateau State and Nigeria.
