Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has cautioned Nigerians against attempts to replicate the ongoing revolution in Nepal, warning that such actions could plunge the country into chaos.

In a post shared on social media, Omokri referenced the destruction of public and private infrastructure during the October 2020 #EndSARS protests, including the burning of Lagos State’s forensic laboratory, BRT buses, courthouses, and police stations. He said the damage in Lagos alone was valued at $305 million.

According to him, many of those who spearheaded the protests were not Lagos indigenes and did not pay taxes in the state, yet inflicted heavy losses on its economy while leaving their home states untouched.

He also recalled that last year’s “Days of Rage” protest caused damage worth ₦200 billion in Northern Nigeria, nearly destabilising the country as agitators hoisted Russian flags to instigate a regime change similar to Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.

Omokri argued that Nigeria remains more politically stable and economically progressive compared to Nepal. He cited the peaceful coexistence of five living former presidents—Yakubu Gowon, Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida, Abdulsalami Abubakar, and Goodluck Jonathan—working with the incumbent through the Council of State.

He further claimed that under President Bola Tinubu, Nigeria’s GDP had grown from ₦269.29 trillion in May 2023 to ₦372.8 trillion in two years, an increase of $67 billion.

Omokri advised that anyone dissatisfied with governance should channel protests to their state of origin instead of targeting the country’s commercial hub.

“Nigeria is a much better-governed space than Nepal. If you still want to replicate the Nepali protests locally, then please, by all means, start from your state of origin,” he wrote.
