The Presidency has clarified an earlier statement, confirming that no ambassador-designate has been appointed to Turkey.

According to Western Post, the clarification followed a naming mix-up, with the Presidency explaining that the appointment is still under review.

The clarification was contained in a corrected State House statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The statement disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has so far approved the posting of only three ambassador-designates from the 68 nominees earlier confirmed by the Senate.

According to the Presidency, Ambassador Ayodele Oke has been posted to France, while Colonel Lateef Are (rtd) has been approved as Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to the United States of America.

It also confirmed Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, a former envoy to South Korea, as the High Commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom.

The Presidency noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been directed to notify the governments of the three countries in line with diplomatic protocols, stressing that no decision has been finalised regarding the Turkey posting.

It added that the review process is ongoing and that a formal announcement will be made once a decision is reached.

Recall that an earlier statement issued on Thursday night had announced the posting of former Kebbi State governor, Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, as ambassador-designate to Türkiye, ahead of President Tinubu’s scheduled state visit to the country next week.
