The Nigeria Police Force has arrested and released former Imo State Governor and Senator, Rochas Okorocha, on bail following an hour of interrogation over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
Okorocha was reportedly arrested on Monday night, October 12, 2026, at the REIZ Continental Hotel in Abuja.
The spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, CSP Aniete Iniedu, confirmed the arrest and subsequent release to Channels Television, stating that the former governor had been directed to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning as investigations continue.
According to the police, the arrest followed Okorocha’s alleged failure to honour previous invitations in connection with the investigation. He was initially invited to appear at the Force Headquarters on September 2, but the appointment was rescheduled to September 8 at the request of his lawyers. He reportedly failed to honour the rescheduled invitation.
The investigation is reportedly linked to a disputed document circulating on social media that purportedly identified Okorocha as the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary for Imo West ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had reportedly petitioned security agencies to investigate the document, describing it as fictitious and stating that its records identified Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as the winner of the primary.
Police investigations into the allegations are ongoing. No court determination of Okorocha’s guilt has been reported.
