Plateau State Association USA Commissions Boreholes to Address Water Scarcity in Plateau Communities
The Plateau State Association USA (PSA-USA) has commissioned a series of borehole projects across selected communities in Plateau State as part of efforts to improve access to clean water and enhance living conditions in rural areas.
The initiative, led by the association’s president, Barth Shepkong, targeted communities severely affected by water scarcity, with projects executed in Jos Jarawa, Barkin Ladi, Shiwer in Kanke Local Government Area, and Jat Ward in Langtang North.

According to Shepkong, the communities were selected based on critical need, noting that the intervention was designed to provide safe and accessible water to residents who have long faced challenges in accessing potable water.
The commissioning tour commenced in Jos Jarawa, where residents welcomed the delegation with traditional music and cultural displays. Speaking on behalf of the District Head, the Village Head, Christopher Azi, expressed gratitude to the association, describing the project as a major relief after years of hardship caused by water shortages.
Also speaking, Ajik Amos, who represented a member of the House of Representatives, commended the intervention and highlighted the importance of partnerships between diaspora groups and local communities in driving development.
In Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, the borehole project in Bet community was described by residents as a critical health intervention, particularly in addressing the prevalence of water-borne diseases.

A similar reception was recorded in Jat Ward, Langtang North, where women and children welcomed the initiative, noting that it would significantly reduce the burden of travelling long distances in search of water.
During the commissioning, community leaders, including Dirya Sheni, commended the association for its efforts and called for more developmental projects to support local communities.
While handing over the facilities for public use, Shepkong emphasized the importance of proper maintenance, urging residents—especially youths—to take ownership of the projects to ensure their sustainability for future generations.
The borehole projects are expected to improve access to clean water, enhance public health, and contribute to the overall well-being of the benefiting communities.
