In a press release today, November 8, 2023, the Commissioner of Police for the Plateau State Command, CP Okoro J. Alawari, has expressed concern over the unlawful protests occurring in the state. The protests, sparked by the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal on the Senatorial/House of Representatives elections, resulted in road blockades around Old Airport junction and Mararaban Jama’a. There were also attempts to set fire to the Court of Appeal structure in Jos.
To safeguard peace, law, and order in the state, CP Okoro J. Alawari through the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, issued a stern warning to individuals or groups engaging in protests that have the potential to disrupt the prevailing peace. The Commissioner cautioned that the police command will take decisive action in accordance with the law against any perpetrators.
In addition to addressing protesters, CP Alawari directed a warning to parents, traditional and religious leaders, urging them to counsel their wards and subjects to refrain from participating in unlawful protests to avoid facing legal consequences.
