The Plateau State Government held a special thanksgiving service at the Polo Field in Jos, on Thursday, May 29, 2025 to commemorate the second anniversary of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Piyo’s administration.
Organized in collaboration with the Plateau State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the event drew dignitaries from various sectors, including traditional rulers, members of the clergy, heads of ministries, military representatives, members of the House of Representatives, former governors, and representatives of Christian denominations.
In his address, Governor Mutfwang expressed gratitude to the people of Plateau for their unwavering support, recalling the sacrifices made during and after the 2023 elections and the legal battles that followed.
“We are here because the Lord has shown us mercy. It is not by merit but by His providence,” he said. “I thank Plateau people for standing by us—during the elections, at INEC offices, and in the courts. Your prayers and support brought us this far.”
While acknowledging the recent security challenges, including attacks in the Mushere District of Bokkos that claimed lives in the days leading up to the event, the governor making the call for unity insisted that the thanksgiving would hold as a testament of faith.
“The enemy’s aim is to keep us in mourning, but we refuse to remain there. These are temporary afflictions, and they will pass. Now more than ever, Plateau must unite. There is enough for all if we stand together,” Mutfwang declared.
Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Piyo, in her welcome address, described the occasion as a moment of reflection on the administration’s achievements over the past two years.
“Despite inheriting a huge debt and a demoralized civil service, we have cleared salary backlogs, restored trust, and embarked on key infrastructure projects,” she noted. “From road construction to revitalizing Plateau Express and addressing security through Operation Rainbow, this administration is committed to inclusive governance.”
Piyo reaffirmed the government’s resolve to prioritize the welfare of all citizens, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or background.
The event featured a brief exhortation by Rev. Dr. N.C. Thompson, who likened Governor Mutfwang to biblical King Solomon, describing him as a unifier raised by God amidst political tension.
“Like Solomon, you emerged despite the odds. We will keep praying for you. Plateau is going through much, but your leadership gives hope,” Thompson said.
Also delivering a goodwill message, His Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, CFR, Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman, Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, assured the governor of continued support from the traditional institution.
“This coat of many colors you wear today is symbolic—like Joseph’s in the Bible. He went through trials but rose to become a leader in Egypt. We pray the same for you,” the royal father declared.
The thanksgiving climaxed with prayers for the governor, his deputy, and the entire cabinet, led by ECWA Plateau President, Rev. Dr. Job Bagat and COCIN President Rev. Dr Amos Mohzo
The event marked not only a celebration of accomplishments but also a call to greater unity, resilience, and faith as the administration begins its third year in office.
The service was led by Pastor Abraham Yiljap – SA Political Affairs, Rev Benjamin Nadabo, Chaplain Government House Chapel and The Rev Dr. Gideon Para-Mallam, Secretary Church Denominational Leaders Forum
