
Plateau state Governor Simon Lalong’s participation at the just ended “Global Disability Summit” in London has attracted support for the state Disability Rights Commission.
Lalong had a partnership meeting with the Head of Programs at Motivation UK, Tamsin Langford presented a request for collaboration with the State Disability Rights Commission.
This is in the area of Manufacture and distribution of aid devices.
The Governor’s Request was promptly granted and approval for the aid devices to be delivered to the state between August and September this year.
Governor Lalong briefed the organization on the effort of his administration in mainstreaming people with disabilities in his government’s policies and programmes, especially, the state Fadama project, Potato value chain scheme as well as the Fadama Micro finance Bank to boost access to Finance.
He disclosed his administration has taken deliberate measures to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities. This, he said is through education, access to quality health care, improved livelihood and access to justice.
A press release issued by state commissioner of Information and Communication Yakubu Dati indicates Governor Lalong who had engagements on the sidelines of the Global Disability Summit also had a bilateral meeting with a member of Parliament Harriet Baldwin, the minister of state in the foreign and common wealth office in charge of the department for international Development, DFID of the British Government where he expressed his passion, commitment for Disability Rights in Plateau state.
The minister in her response pledged the support of the UK government for the Plateau state Disability Rights Commission.
The Global Disability Summit ended Tuesday in London with Countries making commitment to double their investment in creating access to education, health and asistive technology for people with disabilities.
Governor Simon Lalong was accompanied to the summit by James Lalu, chairman, Plateau state Disability Rights Commission. Also in attendance were Minister of Women Affairs and Deputy Governor, Jigawa state.
